Q

If a truck is stopped at/approaching an intersection, what should you never do?

A

Never cut in along their right side as the truck driver begins their turn because typically as large trucks are taking a right turn, they have to turn left and then follow through right.

Q

No Zones and what are the four?

A

large “blind spots” around trucks where other vehicles “disappear” from view, so the truck driver cannot see

Side No-Zones = If you cannot see
the driver’s face in their side-view mirror, they cannot see you. The right-side blind spot runs the length of the truck’s trailer and extends out three lanes.

Backing Up No-Zones = Truck drivers have no rear view mirror so Never cross
behind a truck that is backing up.

Rear No-Zones = Do not tailgate (drive on the tail of the car in front of you) as the truck driver cannot see you

Front No-Zones = Look for both
of the bus or truck’s headlights in your rear-
view mirror before you pull in front, and then do not slow down

Motorcycle Rules

A

• Yield right-of-way to an oncoming motorcycle when turning left. If not, you could get a citation with significant penalties
• Look twice before changing lanes or
merging into traffic by using your mirrors
• Do not share a lane with a motorcycle
• whole lane.
• Do not “tailgate” (drive too close) to a
motorcycle
• Leave plenty of space between your
vehicle and the motorcycle when passing by ensuring you can see the motorcycle’s headlight in your rear-view-mirror before moving back into the lane and if it’s passing you, maintain your speed and allow them to complete their passing
• Be careful when driving near a group
of motorcyclists. Use your turn signal early and wait if you need to change lanes or reach an exit, and Only merge in between groups or riders when there is enough space to do so safely. If it is a small
group, it may be easier to slow down and let
the group pass before changing lane

A

• On all types of roads (except interstate
highways, and bridges and tunnels with tolls).
• At intersections and traffic circles.
• In all kinds of weather.
• At all times of the day and night

  • may ride in the travel lane to avoid obstacles
  • may ride in the center of travel lane on roads w/o shoulder or when cars are parked on the side of it
  • may use the full lane even while traveling significantly below the speed of traffic (if the lane is too narrow for a motor vehicle to safely pass the bicycle while it is in the lane)

Q

What is involved in yielding to bicycles?

A
  • yield when a motor vehicle is making a turn
  • yield when you enter/cross a bike lane or shoulder
  • Failing to yield right of way to a bicycle which results in a crash carries fines and or prison time and points on your driving record.
NOTE: Gives bikes at least three feet between your vehicle and the bike when passing

Q

Bike Rules: Intersections, Bridges, and Driveways

A

• Never make a right turn from a through
lane immediately after passing a bike on a
shoulder or bike lane. A through lane is a
lane that continues straight.

• Try to make sure there are no bicycles on
your right or in your right blind spot when you turn right.

• Before starting a right turn, move as far to
the right as possible within the bike lane,
shoulder, or right turn lane.

• When turning, yield to bicycles like you do
with any other vehicle going straight. Do not
turn left immediately in front of a bicycle.

• Look closely for bicycles before you move
right to pass a vehicle that is turning left.

• When a road narrows for a bridge, parked
cars, or other obstructions on the right,
be prepared for a bicyclist riding on the
shoulder to merge left into the travel lane.

Mopeds and scooters may be ridden on any
road with a posted maximum speed limit of…

A

50 miles per hour or less; Side-by-side or alone, On the road or on the shoulder.

17
Q

“Advanced Driver Assistance Systems” (ADAS)

A

Features that make driving safer by preventing injuries, like sensors and cameras to identify possible dangers
• Assist with staying in your lane, reducing blind spots, keeping safe distances between you and other vehicles, avoiding crashes, parking
• Ex. Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assistance, and Blind Spot Warning

18
Q

What should you be aware of and always stay conscious of regarding technology in vehicles?

A

Be Aware That

• The technology has limitations and may not
work properly in rain, snow, fog, on hills, and
around curves.
• The technology responds differently from
one type of vehicle to another – even the
dashboard icons may differ.
• There are many different names for the
technology, and the names do not always
describe what the technology does.

Always

• Keep your vehicle sensors clean and
damage free.
• Keep the software technology up-to-
date and follow the manufacturer’s
recommendations.
• Be familiar with the technologies on any
vehicle you are about to drive and use
them safely and effectively. Learn how by
reviewing your vehicle manual or asking your
car dealership
