  • A manual water spray system giving a coverage of 3.5 ltr/m2/minute over the total area of deck
  • A fixed fire detection and fire alarm system
  • Provide at least 6 air changes per hour
  • Ventilation fans should be of a non-sparking type
  • A suitable gas detection system must be fitted
  • All electrical equipment located up to 450mm above the deck should be certified safe for petrol vapours.
  • Electrical equipment above 450mm above the deck are to be, Rated IP55 or provided with accessible means for easy isolation. All alarms and detection systems should be certified safe for flammable vapours.

What are the requirements for storing aviation fuel?

A
  • Fuel storage tanks should be of baffle-free, stainless steel, cylindrical construction, located in a designated area as remote as practicable.
  • Have a intrinsically safe level indicator
  • Area should be permanently marked
  • Tank ventilation (breather) pipes should be fitted with an approved vent head with pressure-vacuum valve, flame arrester, and desiccant. The vent outlet should be located no less than 2.3m above the weather deck
