Section 7 Flashcards
What is the aircraft body made of?
Aluminum alloy
What kind of aircraft is the Seminole?
Twin engine
All metal
Retractable landing gear
Can you do aerobatic maneuvers in this aircraft?
No
What is the fuselage type?
Semi-monocoque
What type of wing does the Seminole have?
Semi-tapered design
Modified laminar flow NACA airfoil section
What does the antiservo tab do?
Longitudinal stability and trim
Increases rudder efectivness
Where does the carburetor receive air from?
Induction air which passes through air filter
Heated air which by passes filter
What does carburetor heat selection provide? (2)
Heated air to carburetor in event of carb ice
Selection of an alt source of air in the event the induction air source or air filter becomes blocked with snow, ice, etc
When should carb heat not be used and why?
On the ground because it is unfiltered allowing containments to enter the system
What are the props?
Counter-rotating
constant speed
Controllable pitch
Feathering
What way does oil pressure send the props?
High RPM low pitch unfeatherd position
Prevents prop overspeeding
How does a prop governor control speed?
Controls engine speed by varying the pitch of the propeller to match load torque to engine torque in response to change flight conditions
How long does it take to feather?
6 seconds
What happens when you move the prop control out of the feather position?
Oil that has been accumulated under pressure is released and moves the prop out of the feathered position
What are feathering governors used for?
The conventional manner and the accumulator unfeathering capability
How long does ti take to feather?
10-17 seconds
How long does it take to unfeather?
8-12 seconds
What do the anti-feathering pins do?
Cannot feather below 950 rpm
Prevent on shutdown
Must make sure you feather before 950
How is the gear horn activated by the throttle?
Below 14 inches, microswitches are incorporated
Why should you adjust engine levels smoothly?
Prevent unnecessary wear or damage
What happens when the carb heat handle is down?
The engine is operating on unfiltered, heated air
What are the three lever positions of the cowl flaps?
Full open, full closed, intermediate
What kind of landing gear does the seminole have?
Hydraulically operated, fully retractable, tricycle landing gear
What kind of brakes do the semi have?
Single-disc, double puck break assemblies
Actuated by toe breaks
There is a break system hydraulic reservior
What are the flap settings in the semi?
10, 25, 40
What are the fuel tanks capacity?
55 gallons
54 useable
What is minimum fuel grade?
100 octane
How is the fuel supplied to the engines?
Engine driven pumps
Aux electric pumps are a back-up
When should fuel pumps on?
Critical phases of flight
Take off and landing
How does the primer work?
Uses the electric fuel pumps and solenoid controlled valves which allows fuel to flow through lines to primer jets in 1,2,4 cylinders
When can you not have the fuel flow in x-feed?
Take off and landing
