Section 4 - Practices & Procedures Flashcards
Are ATC responsible to due regard aircraft?
ATS not responsible
ATS is not responsible for:
a) ATS to due regard aircraft; and
b) separation between due regard aircraft and other aircraft.
What is a holding fix?
A geographic location that serves as a reference for a holding
procedure.
What is a holding procedure?
A predetermined manoeuvre which keeps an aircraft within a specified
airspace while awaiting further clearance.
When do you give QNH to pilots?
Pass Local QNH to aircraft that will be arriving at or departing from a controlled
aerodrome. Provide an aircraft descending in controlled airspace with a Local QNH when it is
first assigned an altitude.
What is the max allowable change of QNH?
+- 5hPa
What are the four types of separation standards?
Lateral, Longitudinal, Vertical, and Visual
What is the vertical separation minima for non-RVSM aircraft at an RVSM FL?
2000ft
What is the separation minima for lateral separation?
1NM between all possible positions of the aircraft
What is GNSS?
Global Navigation Satellite System.A satellite-based radio navigation system that uses signals from
orbiting satellites to determine precise position and time.
What is SCNS?
Self Contained Navigation System
What is separation assurance?
Assure separation through the process of assessing traffic, identifying conflicts,
planning to ensure separation, executing the plan and monitoring the situation to
ensure the standard is not infringed.
