What are the broadcast requirements for FIS products?
Notify aircraft at the time operational information or the existence of non-routine
MET products is identified:
a) except for AIRMET, by directed transmission to those aircraft maintaining
continuous communication and within one hour’s flight time of the conditions
(two hours in the case of SIGMET);
b) where continuous communication is not required, by broadcasting on
appropriate ATS frequencies to those aircraft that could be within one hour’s
flight time of the conditions (two hours in the case of SIGMET); and
c) by directed transmission to all affected aircraft engaged in SAR action
Disseminate AIRMET by broadcasting their availability on appropriate ATS
frequencies. Do not use directed transmissions
What is the BOF?
The Briefing Office (BOF) provides pre-flight information and processes Flight
Notifications.
What is the NOF?
The NOF controls the national NOTAM register(s) for the issue of all domestic
and international NOTAM.
What are some products pilots may request in flight notification?
NOTAM, TAF, METAR, SPECI, GAF
What charts might pilots look at before a flight?
VFR: ERC, WAC, VNC, VTC and ERSA for the route being
flown
IFR: ERC, IAL charts and ERSA for the route being flown, and also for the
departure, destination and alternate airfields to be used. In addition, where
visual navigation is required, the pilot in command must have access to
appropriate WAC, VNC or VTC.
