section 4 - muscles Flashcards
Cardiac Muscle
it is an involontary muscle in the body that helps with the respiratory system
ex: lungs
Skeletal muscle
a volontary type of muscle that normally is attached to a bone
ex: biceps, triceps, calves
Smooth muscle
its a muscle type
Contraction
when muscles contract away or come closer to you
Flexion
when you tighten your muscles
Extension
when you extend a muscle out / stretch a muscle
ex: reaching out to grab something with your arm
what are the three types on muscle?
smooth muscles, cardiac muscles, and skeletal muscles
why do muscles have different patterns?
what are muscle fibers?
fibers that make up muscles
what is voluntary muscle?
a muscle that you can expand/contract/flex using your brain
(you don’t use it unless your brain tells your body to)
which two of the three types of muscles in the body are involuntary?
smooth and cardiac muscles
distiguish between skeletal muscle and smooth muscle
skeletal muscles are volontary and smooth muscles are in volontary
