Section 4 - (1) Location and Transportation Flashcards
Choosing a location is very important for the project :
for attraction and it reduces the creation of roads, utilities, and services.
LT Category Focuses on the Existing built Env. Rather than:
creating and depleting env. Resources to create new roads and infrastructure.
social integration is also created when choosing a location:
with an existing community more people will walk, reducing pollution.
LT Intent : (6)
1- promote Compact Development
2- Provide alternative transportation
3- Connect to amenities
4- Use existing infrastructure
5- Access for walking and bicycling
6- limit parking capacity
LT uses a set of design strategies that promote the triple bottom line through:
A- Location.
B-Transportation.
C-Neighborhood Development and design
A- Location Concepts; (5)
1- Smart Growth ;
-Urban Sprawl ; the opposite; moving into outside of cities for low density will cause you to use cars and cause social isolation.
2 - Compact development;
A. Development Density: ; Measure of the average area of buildings within a radius. *Only functional properties are counted; parks, waterways, roads are excluded. B. Floor Area Ratio (FAR) ; the Ratio of GFA to the size of the land it was built on. C. Walking Distance. D. Bicycle Network.
- Selecting LEED Certified Neighborhood;
- Diversity Uses; has 5 categories use at least 3. Distance not more than 800m.a- food.
b- Retail.
c-Services.
d-Civic and community facilities.
e-community Anchor uses. - Locate near public transit.
B-Transportation Concepts; (7)
-Transportation causes; air pollution, traffic congestion, urban sprawl, emission.
1.Public transportation;
2.Reduce Parking Spaces;
3.Alternative fuel Vehicles;
4.Compressed work week;
5.Telecommuting; work from home.
6.Carpooling and Parking Fees.
7.Encourage biking.
C- Neighborhood Development and Design Concepts; (3)
- Smart location and linkage
- Neighborhood Pattern and Design
- Green Infrastructure
