Section 3 - Sustainable thinking and integrative Process Flashcards
Systems Thinking?
Teams Thinking Together instead of individual Thinking
Leverage Points?
When a small Change in a complex System Causes Big Changes.
Feedback Loops?
info Flows in a system allowing it to organize it self like Heating/cooling system.
iterative process?
Process of calculating desired results by repeated cycle of operations.
Product Lifecycle?
Mined in africa manufactured in india…. lifecycle has embodied energy from harvest, transportation…
Life Cycle Assessment ( LCA ); According to ISO 14040
Assess Env. Impacts caused by stages of Products from excavation to Grave.
LCA has 4 Phases;
1- Goal and Scope; identify LCA purpose, expected outcome.
2- Life Cycle Inventory ( LCI ); stages of production are analyzed for energy used.
3- Life Cycle Impact Assessment; Evaluate Potential Env. Impacts for Energy and raw materials.
4- Interpretation; a Systematic technique to identify, evaluate, and check info from LCA and LCI.
Life Cycle Costing ( LCC )?
assessing cost effective options, according to initial and operational costs. How to maximize net savings.
LCC Cost Types;
1-initial Cost.
2-O+M Cost.
3-Fuel Cost.
4-Disposal Cost.
5-Finance Cost
6-Non-Monetary Costs or Benefits.
7- Hard Costs.
8-Soft Costs.
Conventional Building Process ?
a Process that does not take into account current or new findings. - easier than other processes. But causes many problems, teams never reach target
Whole Building Design Approach?
Views bldg as a system not diff isolated components, results in full integration between teams , better decisions.
*Result is integrated Design Process (IDP)+ integrated Team Process ( stakeholders ).
4 Main Components of a Successful Whole Bldg Design Approach…
1- Establish Vision , Set Design Performance Goals.
2- Forming Strong Collaborative Integrated Project Team.
3- Understand Requirements and outcomes of each phase.
4- adding sustainable Design Within the established Design Process.
Integrative Process?
comprehensive approach to bldg systems ; identify and use opportunities to achieve synergies across disciplines and bldg systems.
Reasons for Integrative Process?
1- High Performance and Sustainability Expectations.
2- Spreading Awareness to Developers and Designers.
3- adaptability and Flexibility during Entire Life Cycle.
4- Increased requirements causes by Complex Projects, and to avoid discrepancies between Diff Trades.
5- Avoid Excessive costs from isolated decisions.
Design objectives of integrative Process; to achieve a high-performing bldg.
1- Accessibility and Security.
2- Economical.
3- Operational.
4- Preservation.
5- Productivity.
6- Sustainable.
