It is that مركب whose first part is called مضاف (annexed) and the second part is called مضاف إلبه (that to which annexation is made).

The مضاف إليه is ALWAYS مجرور (genitive).

An example is غلام زيد

It is that compound where two nouns have been made into one, and the second noun comprises the meaning a particle.

An example is from أحد عشر (number 11) to تسعة عشر (number 19)

Both the first and second part is مبنى بر فتح

The exception is إثنا عشر (number 12) as its first part is معرب (declinable)

It is that compound where two nouns have been made into one, and the second noun DOES NOT comprise the meaning a particle.

An example is بعلبك (Baalbek, Lebanon) or حضرموت (Hadhramawt, Yemen)
