How would you treat an injury to a bone + what are its signs & symptoms? (fractures)
keep in position found, immobilise/ support,
upper body- sling, lower body- blankets/ clothing,
cover exposed wound with sterilised dressing,
call 999/ 112 for help
How would you treat an injury to a muscle and or joint + what are its signs & symptoms?
RICE
Rest the affected limb,
Ice pack wrapped in clothing/ material to reduce swelling (no longer than 20min),
Comfortable position (provide comfortable support), or Compress (bandage over ice pack)
Elevate the affected area
How would you treat a dislocation + what are its signs & symptoms?
Allow casualty to find comfy position,
support limb in that position with padding/ bandages,
DO NOT try to move joint,
call 999/ 112
How would you treat shock + what are its signs & symptoms?
Raise legs, loosen tight clothing, reassure them, keep them warm, do not give food or drink,
call 999/ 112 for help
dizziness, confusion, nausea, thirst
How would you treat a severe bleed?
Wear protective gloves, lay/ sit them down in comfy position, examine wound & check for foreign objects, apply direct pressure to wound with dressing/ hands or fingers,
treat for shock
What are the key steps for Adult Drowning CPR with a Pocket Mask and AED?
- Check for danger and responsiveness.
- Call for help and get an AED.
- Give 5 rescue breaths (using a pocket mask).
- Start 30 chest compressions (5-6 cm deep).
- Continue 30:2 (compressions to breaths).
- Attach and follow AED instructions.
What are the key steps for Child CPR with an AED?
- Check for danger and responsiveness.
- Call for help and get an AED.
- Give 5 rescue breaths.
- Start 30 chest compressions (use one or two hands).
- Continue 30:2 (compressions to breaths).
- Attach AED
How does Infant CPR differ from Child CPR?
• Use two fingers instead of a full hand.
• Press 1/3 of the chest depth (about 4 cm).
• Cover nose and mouth when giving breaths.
• Use paediatric AED pads (one on chest, one on back).
