What is data?

A

Raw facts and figures before they’ve been processed.
It’s not possible to understand what they mean.
Examples: 23, 6, 7, 8

What is information?

A

Information is created when data is processed.
Information is data with meaning.
It has been processed by a computer and is normally part of a sentence.
Example: 34 minutes. It takes me 34 minutes for me to walk to school.

A

INFORMATION = data + [structure] + [context] + meaning

What is knowledge?

A

Knowledge makes use of information by applying rules to it, so that it can be used in a meaningful way. It means you can understand what to do with the information, make predictions and judgements.
Example: John ran the race in 15 seconds, this was the fastest time and therefore he was the winner.
