What are the steps of the scientific method?
- Ask a question.
- Research existing sources.
- Formulate a hypothesis.
- Design and duct a study.
- Draw conclusions.
- Report results.
When is a question too vague or too narrow?
A question should be narrow enough to study within a geographic location and time frame, but should also be broad enough to have universal merit.
What do we mean by a literature review?
A review of any existing similar or related studies.
What is a hypothesis?
An explanation for a phenomenon based on a conjecture about the relationship between the phenomenon and one or more causal factor.
What is an independent variable?
The causes of change in a hypothesis.
What is a dependent variable?
The effect, or the thing that is changed in a hypothesis.
What is operational definition?
The defined concept, or variable, in terms of the physical or concrete steps it takes to objectively measure it.
What is interpretive research?
Exploring the topic at hand that may involve a significant amount of direct observation or interaction with subjects including storytelling.
What is an interpretive framework?
Seeks to understand social worlds from the point of view of participants.
