48: Failure of navigation and anti-collision lights
What are the rules when lights required to be displayed fail when the aircraft is on the ground or in the air, day or night?
A
- An aircraft shall not depart from an aerodrome if a required light fails and the light cannot be immediately repaired or replaced, day or night
- An aircraft in flight when a required light fails shall land as soon as it can safely do so, unless authorised by the appropriate ATC unit to continue its flight
- An aircraft may continue to fly during the day in the event of an anti-collision light failure provided the light is repaired at the earliest practicable opportunity
