45: Flight within aerodrome traffic zones

What are the rules?

Answer 1

An aircraft shall not fly, take off or land within the ATZ of an aerodrome unless:

• At aerodromes with an ATC unit during the notified hours of watch, the commander obtains permission to enable safe conduct of flight
• At aerodromes with a FIS unit or air/ground service during the notified hours of watch, the commander obtains information to enable safe conduct of flight

The commander of an aircraft flying within the ATZ of an aerodrome shall:

• maintain a continuous watch on the appropriate radio frequency
• if the above is not possible, keep watch for visual signals
• if fitted with radio, report position and height on entering the zone and immediately prior to leaving it
