SECTION 2 Flashcards
Define correlation.
The degree of relationship between two or more sets of data.
Define the term linear correlation.
The degree of relationship between two variables that have a constant variation.
Define positive correlation.
A condition where, as one variable increases, the other variable also increase.
Define negative correlation.
Results when two variable move in opposite directions at the same rate.
What does the line of regression indicate?
The trend of the data relationships.
What does the line of regression calculation allow?
It allows you to statistically draw a trend line through a pre-plotted scatter diagram of data.
Define a time series.
Data observations over a consecutive period of time.
Variations of data in a time series will usually fit into what three categories?
Secular variations, seasonal variations, or cyclical variations.
When observations in a time series are made at intervals shorter than a year (weekly, monthly, or
quarterly), what type of variations may be exhibited?
Seasonal variations.
How many years of data does it take to determine if a variation is seasonal?
Two years.
What is a basic method of predicting a trend?
By extrapolation.
What are the two methods of extrapolation?
Mechanical and mathematical.
Explain the mathematical method of extrapolation.
It uses a formula method to determine the trend value and computes for the rate of change of the trend
value.
Mutually exclusive events.
When one event occurring prohibits another from occurring.
Independent event.
The occurrence of one event that does not affect the occurrence or likelihood of another event
occurring.
Discrete data.
Data that vary only as whole numbers.
Continuous data.
Data that can be measured in infinite amounts.
Tossing a head and tossing a tail in one toss of a coin.
Mutually exclusive.
Tossing a head in one toss of a coin, and tossing a head on another toss of the coin.
Independent.
Finding the left front tire flat on your car or finding the right front tire flat on your car.
Independent.
Rolling a one or a four on one roll of a die.
Mutually exclusive.
What does the MC rate represent?
Represents the percentage of all possessed aircraft that are capable of fulfilling at least one of their wartime
missions.
What are maintenance status codes designed for?
To describe an aircraft’s ability to perform a unit-assigned mission.
What does the MESL specify?
Which system, subsystem, or component on the aircraft is mission-essential.
From where can the data for computing mission capability rates be obtained?
AVS report.
What does the FSE rate provide commanders with?
A tool to measure their ability to plan and execute their flying requirements.
Where would you get your data to compute your flying scheduling effectiveness rate?
AUR.
Who determines the parameters for the manhours per flying hour?
MAJCOM.
Where do you extract manhour data?
From the MIS such as IMDS.
What are fix rates used for?
To determine if aircraft are being repaired in a timely manner.
What is an air abort?
A sortie that has to make an emergency landing or must land as soon as possible because it could not
continue its primary or alternate mission for some reason.
What is cannibalization?
The authorized removal of a component from one end-item to be installed on another end-item.
What action taken codes are used in CANN and what do they mean?
T – removed for cannibalization; U – replaced after cannibalization.
How does maintenance use the UTE rate?
To show usage of assigned aircraft.
Key metrics fall into what two categories?
Leading and lagging indicators.
How is fleet availability measured?
By MC rate.
How is the program execution measured?
By UTE rate.
Instead of program execution, what does the MAF use for their metrics?
The departure and arrival reliability rate.
When examining the abort rate, what could it be in relation to?
System malfunctions.
What type of aircraft is reported under the 12-hour fix rate?
All aircraft other than fighter aircraft.
How does the Air Mobility Master Plan define on time departure?
Departures within 14 minutes of the scheduled departure time.
What supply measurement is used in conjunction with the CANN rate?
Supply issue effectiveness rate.
What do you need to focus on when the MC rate starts to go down?
Negative trends and top system problems.
As a leading indicator, what calendar schedule do you look at for the FSE rate?
Weekly flying schedule.
What UTE rate is the key indicator for fighter aircraft?
Sortie UTE rate.
Who can initiate a maintenance analysis referral?
Anyone.
Who is the OPR for maintenance analysis referrals?
Maintenance Data Systems Analysis section.
When should a referral be submitted?
When a maintenance problem has been identified and an investigation is needed to determine the cause and
to propose a corrective action.
What are the three major areas on a maintenance analysis referral?
(1) Problem and background.
(2) Results of investigation.
(3) Recommended corrective action.
What is a special study?
An investigation and in-depth analysis of any subject to find out the root cause of a specific problem and
provide possible solutions.
What are the two ways special studies are initiated?
(1) As a result of an analysis of a unit performance and directed by the commander.
(2) Through an equipment or mission analysis and initiated by the analyst.
What are the five basic questions to ask when organizing a special study?
(1) Why are you doing the study?
(2) What is the scope of the study?
(3) What is really happening?
(4) Why is it happening?
(5) What should be done about it?
What are the two methods of presenting a special study?
Written report and oral presentation.
What is the formal way to present a special study?
Written report.
Why do the formats for the special study differ?
To satisfy the requirements of the intended receiver of the report.
What is an advisory notice?
A timely communication used by 754 ELSG to provide DECC and functional users with the necessary
interim guidance and procedures required for continued system operation or to inform the users that
continued system operation is not possible until needed corrections are received.
Upon receipt of an advisory notice, what action would the database manager take?
Decides who is affected and what action a user must take.
How does the FAB use an HUM?
As a tool to communicate with field agencies.
What is the purpose of a system release?
To identify changes, corrections, and updates for IMDS to DECCs worldwide.
