Describe perceived susceptibility
A peoples perception of how likely they are to develop an illness

A person perception regarding short/long term severity of an illness

A persons belief that benefits of a health behavior would prevent/treat an illness

A persons belief that health changes can be difficult to implement and the negative effects associated with doing so
Describe the 3 needs of intrinsic motivation
Competence: Person can successfully perform a task (feedback)
Autonomy: Client must feel their behavior is self-determined and not coerced or controlled
Relatedness: Social environment, belongingness and connectedness with others
What is self-efficacy
When a client believes they can successfully complete a given behavior.

As people learn they are influenced by cognitive/personal factors, behavioral factors and environmental factors.

Process: Goals achieved by doing something, like completely an exercise session
Performance: Goal that represents change in a trackable variable, like benching more/ losing weight
