Section 14 - Delivering the business solution (5%) Flashcards
How are BAs involved in delivering the business solution?
- During design + build: POPIT
- Implementation: understand impact, SARAH curve
- Realisation: contents of the benefit plan
Briefly explain the McKinsey 7s model
Ensures holistic view of project delivery
- Hard elements: Strategy, Structure, Systems
- Soft elements: Shared values, style, skills, staff
What is the CPPOLDAT model?
- Provides aid on what to consider when implementing the change
- Assesses impact
- Customer, Product, Processes, Organisation, Location, Data, Application, Technology
What are the 4 types of deployment?
- Big Bang
- Parallel Run
- Pilot
- Phased
Briefly explain Big Bang deployment
Put everything into operation immediately + stop using old and start using new at a single time
High risk, Low cost
Briefly explain Parallel Run deployment
Use both old + new systems for a time and duplicate everything to make sure new works properly
Can revert to old if required
Low risk, High cost
Briefly explain Pilot deployment
Use new solution at only small proportions of the operation
Full solution deployed on a sub-set of the operation
Lower risk, Cost neutral
Can cause confusion
Briefly explain Phased deployment
New solution deployed as a subset of the capability required, deployed everywhere but not full solution
Less risk, higher cost (esp if using two full tools for half a job each)
What is the SARAH model?
- Documents how people normally react to change
- Not a linear cycle
- Shock, Anger, Rejection, Acceptance, Hope
Briefly explain benefits planning
- Ensures all elements of the benefit of the project can be realised
- Benefits profile: description, type, owner, similar to requirements catalogue
- Benefit dependency network: benefits rarely occur in isolation, one must occur before another realised
- Tracking procedures: process for monitoring + reporting of benefits
Needs to take place before shift to BAU
