Section 1.2 Evidence for Particles Flashcards

1
Q

Why can you smell a cake baking, even though you are not in the same room?

A

The cake gives of invisible particles of itself, these particles mix with the gas particles in the air. This is called diffusion

Q

Why don’t you need to mix particles of a liquid or gas in order for it to diffuse?

A

The particles in liquids and gases move constantly in random manner, eventually the particles will be spread evenly

Q

In which state of matter does diffusion occur the quickest? (liquid or gas?)

A

Diffusion takes place quicker in gas than liquid as the particles of a gas move much quicker than the particles of a liquid
