Section 11 - The Mole Flashcards
1
Q
Why is the mole used?
A
If you had a sample of a substance, and you wanted to count the number of atoms that were in it, you’d have to use some very big numbers, and spend a very long time counting. So you need a unit to describe the amount of a substance that you have - that unit is the mole.

Q
One mole of a substance contains _____________ particles
A
6.02 x 10 ^23
3
Q
One mole of atoms or molecules has a mass in grams ______ to the _________ _________ _____ of that substance
A
equal, relative formula mass
4
Q
What is the equation to find out how many moles of a substance you have?
A
Mass of substance/Relative formula mass
