Secretion and reabsorption throughout the nephron Flashcards
What is filtration?
Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) represents the flow of plasma from the glomerulus into Bowman’s space over a specified period and is the chief measure of kidney function.
What is reabsorption
the proximal/distal convoluted tubules, loop of Henle, the collecting duct) as water and ions are removed as the fluid osmolarity (ion concentration) changes.
What is secretion?
some substances such as hydrogen ions, creatinine, and drugs will be removed from the blood through the peritubular capillary network into the collecting duct.
What is excretion
nitrogen (found in ammonia) to be removed from the body.
Urine also contains many salts and other waste components.
What may indicate glomerulus injury and diabetes
Red blood cells and sugar found in urine
