Collecting duct system and fluid balance Flashcards
What does each Collecting Duct System deliver?
delivers its filtrate to a system of collecting ducts
Where does it pass by?
by the medullary interstitial which has a high sodium concentration
What does ADH/vasopressin act on?
the membrane of the collecting ducts of nephron.
What does vasopressin acting on the membrane of collecting ducts increase?
the permeability of the ducts to water, so that more water is reabsorbed into the bloodstream.
What can an increase of ADH/vasopressin be an indication of?
dehydration
What happens in the absence of ADH?
become impermeable leading to dieresis.
What does the hormone aldosterone do?
induces the DCT to reabsorbs more Na and water. Thus the levels of ADH determine whether urine will be concentrated or diluted.
