Secondary Palate Formation Flashcards
the secondary palate formation starts?
starts at 7th to 8th week
formation of the secondary palate formation will create?
complete separation b/w nasal cavity and oral cavity
how is the nasal septum formed?
forms at midline
develops downward from the frontal nasal process
the maxillary process is going to give us two of what?
two palatine shelves
the two palatine shelves will extend
from maxillary process toward the midline in a VERTICAL dimension
after the seventh week, what has to withdraw?
the tongue withdraws (needs to move out of the way)
why does the tongue need to withdraw?
for the palate to form
what happens to the two palatine shelves when the tongue withdraws?
the shelves will flip going horizontal, instead of vertical and the two shelves will fuse together
what happens to the nasal septum along with the shelves fusing together?
the nasal septum will fuse superior to that… separating our oral cavity from our nasal cavity
the primary palate comes from?
the medial nasal process
the secondary palate comes from?
the maxillary process (vertical dimension)
what will the shelves do?
they will elevate
the shelves will fuse in what direction?
shelves will fuse superior to the tongue and fuse together (w/each other)
the shelves will have to fuse with what else?
with the primary palate
what are the influences of the secondary palate
- high (mucopolysaccarhides)
- contractile fibroblasts (we need fibroblast connective tissue)
- tongue displacement
