Q

What effect does ice secretion have on stability and vessel? Considerations ?

A

Freshwater ice accretion not so bad

Saltwater ice accretion accrues in an irregular way, vessel can trim to the weather/spray side.
Raise G, reduce GM
Reduce freeboard

Aerials (Range reduction or even snapping)
Radar scanners can freeze if stopped

Captain must report

Q

Dry docking- What is the critical moment? What is P force?

A

Just before the vessel takes the blocks fore and aft and needs to maintain positive stability at this time with an adequate GM.

P force. as water is pumped out the buoyancy of the vessel is transferred to the keel blocks causing UPTHRUST.
