Creating a new relationship with God, unified people, experience of forgiveness, and obedience to the law

God stays faithful.
When was the new covenant announced? What was happening around that time?
539-332 BC- post exilic period (persian). Judah was a very small state around israel, totally ruled by Persoa. Guided by high priests of the temple
What are 2 important developments in 2nd temple judaism, right around the New covenant?
Constructuion of the 2nd temple, which is a manifestation of God’s presence, and covenant renewal (centrality of Torah)
What loose threads need to be tied with the new covenant?
Land isn’t owned, God’s spirit isn’t present, sin isn’t completely forgiven, Messianic king isn’t here
Was the 2nd covenant fulfilled with Ezra and Nehemiah?
Yes and no- the temple was rebuilt, the people were restored to their land, confession of sin, but there wasn’t complete cleansing of sin and division among people who did/didn’t go into exile
