Second semester :D Flashcards
Location of the Central Thermoreceptors?
and their function?
1) The preoptic area of the hypothalamus
2) The Vertebral bone marrow
3) The Liver
These detect the Core Temperature
What are the Peripheral Thermoreceptors?
Located in the skin mucosa of oral cavity/anal cavity.
The receptors are proteins of the TRP ion channel family
Transmembrane Receptor Potential channels
nonspecific cation channels, produce depolarization.
TRPV1 and TRPV2 sense very hot, painfully hot stimuli
TRPV3 and TRPV4 sense warm to hot.
TRPA1 senses very cold, less than 17C
TRPM8 sense cool/cold, less than 25C
Mechanisms of heat loss
1) convection, heat loss to the moving air
2) conduction, heat loss to a solid or liquid being touched directly
3) evaporation, can occur at any temperature as long as the humidity is low enough
4) Radiation (infrared, thermal radiation of the body)
