Second review cards Flashcards
Which artery branches first from the abdominal aorta?
-the inferior phrenic artery
At what vertebral level does the aorta bifurcate?
L4
the median sacral artery branches off the aorta at what vertebral level?
L4 (where the aorta bifurcates)
What nerve synapses at the celiac ganglion
greater splanchnic (T5-T9)
What nerve synapses at the superior mesenteric ganglion?
lesser splanchnic (T10-T11)
What nerve synapses at the inferior mesenteric ganglion?
the lumbar splanchnics (L1-L2)
What nerve synapses at the aortico-renal ganglion?
the least splanchnic (T12)
What nerve conveys sensation to the testes?
Testes-visceral pain
- visceral afferents travel along the lesser (T10-T11) and least (T12) splanchnic nerves
- pain will be referred to the lower abdomen (periumbilical and hypogastric, respectively)
What nerve conveys sensation to the skin of the scrotum?
Skin of the scrotum-somatic pain
-pudendal nerve (S2-S4)
What do the pre-aortic lymph nodes drain?
-The GI system
celiac nodes: drain foregut
superior mesenteric nodes: drain midgut
inferior mesenteric nodes: drain foregut
What do the lumbar lymph nodes drain
they are also called the lateral aortic lymph nodes
-Everything in the abdomen besides the GI system
What supplies the three suprarenal (adrenal) arteries?
inferior phrenic artery–>superior suprarenal artery
aorta–>middle suprarenal artery
renal artery –>inferior suprarenal artery
What level are the kidneys?
-roughly from L1 to L3
Where do the gonadal arteries come from?
The abdominal aorta
What exerts control over the internal urinary sphincter?
the pelvic splanchnic nerve (parasympathetic) because it is not under voluntary control
