Define Seborrhoeic keratoses
Benign, warty, epidermal benign growths that occur with skin aging
Aetiology and risk factors of Seborrhoeic keratoses
Hyperkeratosis + acanthosis + hyperplasia of basal cells
RF:
Sun exposure
Fitzpatrick skin type I/II
FHx
Older age
Symptoms and signs of seborrhoeic keratoses
Warty plaque with a fissured keratin surface
Anywhere but palms, soles and mucous membranes
Yellow/light brown/dark brown
Slightly raised
Painless
± pruritus
What does the sudden appearance of multiple seborrhoeic keratoses suggests
Leser-Trelat sign(? underlying malignancy)
Management for seborrhoeic keratoses
Itching → topical steroids e.g. betamethasone
Cryotherapy
Curettage
Laser ablation
Prognosis for seborrhoeic keratoses
Patients who elect for treatment are likely to see good results.
