Search and Rescue (pgs 49 - 50, 25) Flashcards
Who handles search and rescue in NZ?
Inshore and coastal incidents are dealt with by the Police, the Taupo Maritime Radio or the Coastguard. Offshore incidents are handled by the Maritime Safety Authority. In NZ, the Coatguard is a volunteer organization.
What is the use of a 2-minute form?
The 2 minute form is quick to fill out, and gives basic information on you, your boat, where you are going and with whom. In case of an emergency, accurate information will be provided to search and rescue.
In NZ, are you obligated to assist vessels in distress?
Yes - you must proceed with all speed to the assistance of those in distress provided it does not place you or your crew in serious danger.
