Seams, Fasteners, Sealants, and Insulation (110101k) Flashcards
What is a sheet metal seam?
Seam is how two or more pieces of Sheetmetal are fastened together.
Standing seams
They are great no mater the thickness as they are great at reinforcing the material
What is peen seam AKA?
A single seam (3W)
What is a double seam?
Single seam that is hammer over after the fact (3w)
What is a dovetail seam?
Dovetail seam is fabricated on site and they are use in place of a hammerlock
What is a hemmed edge used for?
They are use as a safety edge and the also add stiffness
What is the use of a drip edge?
Use to divert the water away from the flashing
What is a wired edge used for?
Used as a safety edge and for strength
What is the most common type of pipe?
Snap lock
What is a joint described as?
The means used to connect duct work and fittings together
What are common types of joints in Sheetmetal trade?
Slip and drive
What is TDC
Transverse duct connector
What is a propiatary connector?
Produced to replace angle iron frames on medium and tight pressure duct
What is a straight notch?
Just a straight cut in the material up to the joint allowance
What is a square notch?
A notch that removes the square excess from the allowance
What is a slant notch?
A notch that is cut a 45 degrees to prevent overlaying g with hems
What is a full v notch?
A notch that is cut at exactly at 45 degrees. Used for bending 90s
What is a v notch?
A notch that is used at any angle
What is a fastener?
A device designed to join or assemble two or more pieces of something
What is a blind rivets two main types?
Open type and closed type
Are rivets water proof?
No but they are wether proof
What are three types of blind rivet heads?
Dome, countersink, large flange rivet
What is a rivet burr?
This is washer like pice that is used to back a pop rivet
What is the pop rivet code
The number gives us the diameter first and then the length
What are the five main types of screw heads for Sheetmetal trade?
Slotted
Robertson
Phillips
Hex
Combination
What is the difference between self tapping and self piercing?
Self tapping have a drill bit in the end allowing it to easily enter the metal self piercing make less of a big hole and therefore can be removed and re enter multiple times
What is a disadvantage of using a anchor?
The hole made must be critically sized
How much of the duct must be coved with duct liner when insulating?
90% coverage
When is a metal nosing used?
When the air velocity exceeds 4000 feet per minute
