Bench machines (110101g) Flashcards
What are the two categories of turning machines?
Throatless
deep throat
Does the capacity of punches vary on the size of punch and die?
yes
what gives the throatless bench sheer the capability to cut up to 3/16
compound leverage
what part of the bar folder do you have to adjust to change the bend radius?
wings
what are the max and min of circle cutting sheers?
3.25” smallest
42.5” biggest
20g capacity
how are bench vises sized?
by the size of the jaws
What should never be parted in a rod parter?
pipe
tubing
wire
what is the most common length a bar folder comes in?
30” they come 20”– 42”
what part of a slip roller makes the radius?
the rear roller
what is a smiths cleat bender?
a machine that folds 1/2” consistently on finished duct for drives as well as for hems

bending up 1/4” and up to 7/8” this bender allows you to work of the side like a box and pan
What is a blowhorn stake used for?
to form conical projects (looks like the end of a trumpet)
What is a beak horn stake used for?
to form tighter conical projects as well as riveting and seam settings. ( looks like a long birds beak)

this is used for setting seams and completing groove seams on small cylindrical objects ( looks like two pieces of round bar one longer that the other)
what is a creasing stake used for?
equipped with groves from 1/8”—-> 3/8” is used to crease metal and bend wire
what is a Double seaming stake used for?
the ends are oval and allow for double seams to be hammered over on cylindrical projects the ends are slightly angled
what is a hatch stake used for?
used to hammer over sharp bends where a hand brake cannot be used
what is the most common stake used in the trade?
know as the Hollow Mandrel stake
has a rounded end and a square end
what is a hand dolly in terms of sheet metal?
portable stakes that are used with the aid of bumping hammers that allow double seaming and dent removal (backing for hammering body work)
what is a common stakeholder?
A benchplate
what can be made to reduce scaring on soft material when clamped in a vise?
soft jaws ( vise lines )
made from scrap aluminum wood or copper
What things should never be done on a stake?
