Sea 🌊 Flashcards
What is erosion
Erosion is the wearing down of materials across the surface of
the Earth.
Name five processes of erosion
- Hydraulic action.
- Abrasion. .
- Attrition.
- Solution
- Compressed air.
What is hydraulic action
When the force of the waves erodes the coast as they crash against it
What is Abrasion
When eroded material ( load ) in waves crashes against the coastline
What is Attrition
when the seas load hits and collides against itself due to ocean currents
Whats Solution
When some of the seas load is dissolved by tye water
Whats compressed air
Created when waves crash against the joints and cracks in the coastline
Explain sea deposition
• Deposition refers to when the sea
drops or deposits its load of eroded
material along the coast by the swash
of waves.
10 features of erosion
- Bay
- Headland
- Geo
- Sea arch
- Sea cliff
- Blowhole
- Wave cut platform
- Sea cave
- Sea stack
- Stump
Features of deposition
• The process of deposition works with the processes of erosion
and transportation to create many features.
• As the coast erodes, rock is transported and deposited elsewhere
along the coastline.
• This deposited material can build up over time to form new
features.
