What is the SDQ used for?
The SDQ is a brief screening questionnaire assessing emotional and behavioural problems in children/adolescents. It is used to identify young people who should be referred for further assessment/intervention, and to evaluate treatment outcomes.
What is the SDQ composed of?
THe SDQ is a 25-item questionnaire with 5 subscales:
- Conduct problems
- Hyperactivity
- Emotional problems
- Peer problems
- Prosocial behaviours
Each subscale has 5 items, and the scores are summed to create internalising and externalising problem scores as well as a total score on the four deficit focussed subscales (maximum of 40 points)
What is the impact supplement?
The impact supplement assesses
- chronicity
- distress
- social imapirment (home, friends, learning, leisure)
- burden to others
What are the age ranges for the different SDQs?
- Parent/teacher SDQ = 4-17 yo
- Parent/preschool teacher = 2-4 yo
- Self repor version = 11-17 yo
What is are the total-score SDQ cut offs?
- 0-15 = low need/normal
- 16-19 = some need/borderline
- 20-40 = high need/abnormal/likely cases of mental health disorders
What are the cut offs for the individual scales?
- Conduct problems: 4 = some need, 5-10 = high need
- Hyperactivity: 6 = some need, 7-10 = high need
- Emotional symptoms: 6 = some need, 7-10 = high need
- Peer problem: 4-5 = some need, 6-10 = high need
- Prosocial behaviour: 5 = some need, 0-4 = high need
What is the internalising scale made up of?
The emotional problems and peer symptoms scales.
What is the externalising scale made up of?
Conduct and hyperactivity symptoms.
