Define social justice
- treating people fairly
- equal societal bearing of burdens and reaping of benefits,
- social justice is the foundation of public health nursing
- distribution of resources that benefits marginalized populations
- holds in check the self-interest of more privileged populations.
- Impartiality is the goal
(Rector, 2018).
(Drevdahl, 2013).
Describe the convictions of a community health nurse.
- broad and holistic views of health
- healthcare is a basic human right
- improving the health of communities is an example of social justice
- include socially marginalized and vulnerable populations
- Not to do so would constitute discrimination and would be morally indefensible
(Rosoff & DeCamp, 2011)
Describe equality vs. equity.
Consider the following:
- equity in their access to health education and information?
- the diversity of demographically changing country
- materials are available for non–English speaking clients
- strategies, programs, and interventions to reduce the discovery-to-delivery disconnect
- reduce the demands of the healthcare system and implement navigation strategies
