Scrubbing and Gowning

Order of events

Answer 1

Gel hands

Put on mask and hair net and visor if necessary

Place gown on surface and unpackage

Put sterile gloves on the inside of the opened gown packaging

Open nail brush and place near sink

Wet hands and arms (to elbows)

1st handwash = hands and arms to elbows

subsequent washes = 2/3rds of the forearm to avoid compromising the cleanliness of the hands

Let arms drain in sink

Dry hands using cork screw motion - from hand to elbow

Do not return towel to hand once it has been dried

Gowning:

Put on gown

Put on gloves

Do the tag thingy (hold cardboard with right hand, pull out tie on left hand side, rotate anti-clockwise, pull remaining tie)

How do you doffff?

Answer 2

Remove scrub gown by pulling it away from you - do not untie

Take gloves off making sure glove touches glove and hands touch inside surface of glove

Inspect for handcontamination

Wash hands thoroughly

Remove mask in theatre

Remove hair cap in changing room

Place scrubs in allocated laundry bin in the changing rooms
