Check you have stickers and that the machine is good to go

Speed of paper is 25 mm/sec and calibration is 1mV = 1cm

Labelling should involve:

• Name
• DOB
• CHI
• Date and Time ECG was taken
• Symptoms during ECG
• Tell the patient that you will return to discuss the results of ECG

Red = right hand

Yellow = left hand

Green = left foot

Black = right foot

V 1 = 4th intercostal space to the right of the sternum

V2 = 4th intercostal space to the left of the sternum

V3 = midway between Leads 2 and 4

V4 = 5th intercostal space mid-clavicular line

V5 = Same level as lead 4 in the anterior axillary line

V6 = Same level as lead 4 in the mid axillary line

PR interval = 0.12-0.2 (3-5 small boxes)

QRS = Less than 0.12 seconds

QT interval = max 0.42 (10.5 small boxes)

PR interval = start of P wave to start of QRS

QT interval = start of QRS to end of T wave
