What are common sx reported to PT?
cough (productive or non), resting dyspnea or orthopnea, chest pain, altered breathing pattern, abnormal sputum, hemoptysis
What are most common pulmonary dz that mimics MS dz?
PNA, PE, pleurisy, pneumo, PA HTN, lung CA
What type of risk factors would warrant a pulmonary screen?
over 40, smoking, PMH of cancer or TB, recent URI, older pts with shoulder pain and confusion
What are other less thought of risk factors?
occupational lung dz, GSW, stabbing, rib fracture, scuba diving
What is PNA?
inflammation/infection of the lung
What are risk factors to get PNA?
URI with smoking, poor health
kids or aging adults
What are sx and symptoms of PNA?
fever, cough, shoulder, low back or thoracic pain
aging adult with confusion
Who is at risk for TB?
recent travel to former soviet union or central asia
sx not till later but like PNA
What is a PE?
blood clot traveling to lungs from a DVT
emergent referral
What are sx of PE?
Dyspnea, sharp localized pain, persistent cough, hemoptysis, anxiety, tachy, fever
What is the simplified Wells for PE?
DVT sx- leg swelling, pain, HR over 100
immobilization for 3 days or recent surgery, hemoptysis, malignency
What is score that a PE is likely?
2 or more
What is pleurisy?
inflammation of pleura hx of SLE, RA or recent infection
What are sx of pleurisy?
chest pain, cough, dyspnea, fever, tachypnea
What are sx of pneumo?
dyspnea, unilateral resp wall mvmt, sudden/sharp chest pain, neck vein distention, tachy, BP drop
sitting upright decreases sx
