Screening Coding Flashcards
What are some of the reasons for clients to code in Excel?
- To share with those who may not have access to FactSet
- Viewing multiple data sources in one template. In Workstation, you would have to navigate from one report to another. Coding lets you see all information at the same time
- Dynamic: is highly flexible in terms of changing identifiers and time periods
- Some clients primarily work in Excel, like Analysts.
- To implement FDS data into existing financial models/reports.
- To create new models/reports from Scratch
What is the Screening Syntax?
^%
What format must identifiers be in Screening Coding?
- Identifiers must be scientific. This is done through Excel Format Cells > Number > Scientific or FactSet Ribbon > Utilities > Template Management > Apply Identifier Format
- Alternatively, we can add a ^ after an identifier
What tool do we use to code in Office (e.g. Excel)?

Which function returns the identifiers based on a specified universe, financial criteria, or non-financial criteria?
%UNIVERSE
True or false? When using relational operators in %UNIVERSE we should include =1 at the end of the code?
False. This is only required when dealing with AND/OR statements
How do you group your results in Screening Syntax?
Use the %UNIVERSE function and click on More to access formating options
Which function allows you to change your universe type?
%SET_UNIVERSE
