Scottish Appeal To Edward + Norham Flashcards

Q
Scottish Appeal to Edward and Norham
A
- Scottish Guardians and Claimants had travelled to Upsettlington just North of the English border.
- Edward and a large army established their base at Norham Castle.
- The Guardians were worried, Edward had a huge army with him and the Guardians saw that as a serious military threat.
- However, it became clear that Edward would not move from the castle so they had to go to him.
- Edward demanded that the Scots accept him as their feudal Overlord before he would make any judgement on who would be King of Scots.
- The Guardians argued that only a King could deal with such a request and that could only happen after Edward had chosen the next King of Scotland.
