Scoring Sleep Flashcards
1
Q
N1 Sleep (psg criteria)
A
- Less than 50% Alpha
- If no alpha than any of the following:
1) 4 to 7 Hz background with slowing greater than 1 Hz from stage wake
2) Vertex waves (Central)
3) slow rolling Eye movements
2
Q
N2 Sleep
Requirements for scoring
A
Both are needed
- Less than 20% Delta
- One or both during the first half of the epoch or last half of the previous epoch
1) one or more K complexes without an arousal (frontal)
2) one or more sleep spindles (Central)
3
Q
N3 Sleep
A
-Greater than 20% of the 30 second epoch
is Delta sleep (six seconds)
-Delta wave is less than or equal to 2 Hz and greater than 75 µV
-Sleep spindles may continue
4
Q
REM sleep (psg features)
A
- LAMF EEG (resembles N1)(Alpha activity may appear)
- REMs
- Low chin EMG tone
- If epoch has REMs and chin EMG is low then score as REM sleep even if K complexes or sleep spindles are present (This often happens during the first REM of the night)
5
Q
Stage wake
A
- Greater than 50% Alpha
- If no alpha than any of the following
1) Eye blink 0.5 to 2 Hz
2) reading eye movements
3) irregular conjugate eye movements associated with increased or normal chin EMG
