What is scleritis?
A
Inflammation of full thickness of the sclera.

Which is more serious, episcleritis or scleritis, and why?
A
Scleritis, because it can lead to perforation of the sclera.

What is the most severe type of scleritis?
A
Necrotising scleritis

What are the most common conditions associated with scleritis and in what percent of patients with scleritis are they present?

- Rheumatoid arthritis
- SLE
- IBD
- Sarcoidosis
- Granulomatosis with polyangiitis
50% of scleritis patients have one of the above.

What is this a presentation of:
Acute onset severe eye pain (+ with movement), 50% are bilateral, photophobia, eye watering, reduced acuity, abnormal reaction to light?

What is the treatment for scleritis?
A
- Consider and treat underlying systemic condition (immunosuppression if appropriate)
- NSAIDs (topical/systemic)
- Steroids (topical/systemic)
