Sclera Flashcards
Clinical features of Episcleritis
thickening confined to one area of anterior sclera and congestion of episcleral vessels, NOT associated with invasion of cornea
usually Self-limiting
Tx: steroids
clinical features of Nodular granulomatous episclerokeratitis
aka fibrous histiocytoma, pseudotumor and Collie granuloma
Sheepdogs Border Collies, and Australian Shepherds
Nodular Pink Masses at temporal limbus, Bilateral and NON-painful, invasion of cornea is common and can cover completely
Tx of nodular granulomatous episclerokeratitis
Topical and subconjunctival steroids, cyclosporine A, systemic azathioprine
can do Sx and cryo
Control is possible but cure is unlikely
Clinical features of ocular nodular fasciitis
same as NGE except histopath shows fibroblasts with abundant reticulin formation
has no breed predisposition
Sx and cryo is curative unlike NGE
Clinical features of diffuse scleritis
diffuse scleral injection/inflammation, tends to be bilateral
everything is inflamed
PAINFUL
American Cocker Spaniels
Tx: Topical steroids + systemic immunosuppressives (steroids and azathioprine)
