what is a symptom
what people exerience when they have a dissorder
what is a positive sympotom
anything that adds something to a person behaviour that was no there before
eg. delusions and hallucinations
what is a negative symptom
distruptions to normal emotions and behaviour
eg. disorganised speech and disorganised or catatonic behaviour
what are hallucinations
hearing or seeing something around you without any stimuli
patient must be conscious and fully awake
auiditory or visual
what is a delusion
beliefs that are held by a patient despite not being ture they cannot be changed
false beliefs that do not correspond to reality
thought insertion is when the individual believes that their thoughts have been implanted by an external force
what is disordered thinking
speech where ideas are loosely connected or unconncected
randomly skips from topic to topic
what is a feature
facts about a disorder
what are the features of schizophrenia
occur in 1% of the population
1/4 diagnosed recover and dont relapse
1/4 never recover
life expectancy is 10 or more years less
men - early to mid 20s
women - late 20s
