Scientific Method Flashcards
What are the 6 steps of the Scientific Method ?
1 . Ask a Question 2 . Make a Hypothesis 3 . Conduct Experiment 4 . Analyze Results 5 . Draw a Conclusion 6. Communicate results
What do you do when you Ask A Question ? (hint: it is when the scientific method starts when you ask a question about something you ___) What are the 6 question starters that start with W’ and 1 that starts with H’?
The scientific method starts when you ask a question about something that you observe : How , What , When , Who , Which , Why , or Where ?
Make Hypothesis ? What kind of guess is it ? What does it attempt to answer ? What is a good hypothesis ? ( hint : “ If __(I do this ) ___ then ___ this will happen .”)
An educated guess about how things work . It is an attempt to answer your question with an explanation that can be tested . A good hypothesis allows you to make a prediction : “If__(i do this )__then__then this will happen .”
Test Hypothesis with Experiment ? What do experiments test ?
Experiments test wether your prediction is accurate or not and if your hypothesis is correct . Repeat several times .
Observation & Research . What must you observe after completing an experiment ? What two other things can research be done to gather ?
Once your experiment is complete , observe the results . Research can also be done to gather additional data and evidence .
Analyze Results & Draw a Conclusion . After analyzing results what must you draw in order to see ? if you hypothesis is wrong what must you do ?
After analyzing results draw a conclusion to see wether or not your hypothesis is correct . Of not then you must start over again .
Communicate Results . What two things can you do to communicate your findings?
Communicate your findings by writing a report or by doing a presentation.
