NUCLEAR FUSION
Process that occurs when the nuclei of several atoms combine into one larger nucleus.
COMET
Object made of gas, dust, and ice that moves around the sun in an oval-shaped orbit.
Appearing to eye or mind.
APPARENT
Measure of how bright an object appears from Earth.
APPARENT MAGNITUDE
LIGHT-YEAR
Distance that light travels in one (1) year. (1 light-year =9x10 (12) km, speed of light =300,000 km/s)
ORBIT
Path an object follows as it moves around another object.
Apparent change in an object?s position caused by looking at it from two different points.
PARALLAX
STAR
Large ball of gas held together by gravity with a core so hot that nuclear fusion occurs.
Graph that plots luminosity v. temperature of stars.
