Hypothesis
A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation
Observation
The action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information
Experiment
A scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact.
Data
a gathered body of facts.
Conclusion
a judgment or decision reached by reasoning.
Theory
a supposition or a system of ideas intended to explain something, especially one based on general principles independent of the thing to be explained
Law
Scientific laws or laws of science are statements, based on repeated experiments or observations, that describe or predict a range of natural phenomena
Independent Variable
a variable that stands alone and isn’t changed by the other variables you are trying to measure
Dependent Variable
Dependent variables depend on other variables.
Controlled Variable (Constant)
any variable that’s held constant in a research study.
Experimental Group
the group in an experiment that receives the variable being tested.
Trial
A fixed number of repetitions of the same experiment can be thought of as a composed experiment, in which case the individual repetitions are called trials.
Bias
any systematic deviation between the results of a study and the “truth.”
Placebo
any treatment that has no active properties,
Meter
the SI base unit of length (equivalent to approximately 39.37 inches), first introduced as a unit of length in the metric system.
