SCIENCE UNIT 5 EXAM REVIEW (WHOLE CHAPTER) Flashcards
Why can’t life exist without water?
Our producers need water to photosynthesis - carbon cycle
Water meets basic human needs
What percent of our Earth’s water is salt water? Give some examples
90% of Earth’s water is salt water
ex/ oceans, seas, some lakes
What percent of Earth’s water is fresh water? Give some examples
Less than 3% is fresh water
ex/ wells, lakes, rivers, ponds
Approximately _____ to _____ percent of your body is water. Can this change? Why?
- 60-70% of our body is water
- It can change by
DEHYDRATION
SICK
HOT
DIET
GROWING
List and explain the process of the water cycle.
Evaporation - liquid to gas. Liquid water evaporates and forms water vapour
Condensation - Gas to liquid. When air becomes so cool it cannot hold any more water vapour and liquid water gets released.
Precipitation - Process in which liquid water forms from condensation occurring inside clouds. Then releasing hail, sleet, snow, rain, etc..
Ground water - Water in the soil. Plant roots can grow down to reach ground water.
Run off - water that runs off the ground into lakes, rivers, or streams
Transpiration - Water is taken in through a plants roots evaporates from the plants leaves, stem, and flowers
Indicate the distribution of water.
Ground water - 0.63%
Rivers, lakes, ponds, streams - 0.02%
Glaciers, ice bergs, sheets - 2.15%
Oceans and seas - 97%
