science test3 Flashcards
5 parts of particle theory
particles move faster when heated particles attract each other all matter is made up of particles you cannot see particles are always moving particles have spaces between them
thermal energy
the total kinetic energy and energy of attraction of all the particles of a material
kinetic energy
energy that all moving objects posses a particle has more kinetic energy when moving faster and less kinetic energy when moving slower
temperature
the measure of average kinetic energy of the particles of a substance
gas particles
move very quickly vibrate, rotate and move past each other have very large spaces in between them are easy to compress kinetic energy=high
liquid particles
move quickly
vibrate, rotate and move around each other
are fairly spaced out
resist being squeezed close together
will not break all the way apart from each other
kinetic energy: medium
solid particles
vibrate
cannot move around each other
are packed close together
kinetic energy=low
expansion
gas= alot
liquid= a little
solid=very little
