science test the human body Flashcards
What does the Circulatory system carry to all parts of your body?
The Circulatory system carries food, oxygen and waste substances
What are the 3 main parts of the Circulatory system?
The 3 main parts of the Circulatory system are the heart, blood vessels and blood
Where is the heart found in your body?
The heart is found inside our chest beneath our lungs slightly to the left.
What is the job of the heart?
The job of the heart is to pump blood through our body (this process is called circulation)
The heart has two sides what does the left side do ?
The left side of the heart pumps blood that contains oxygen around the body
What does the right side of the heart do?
The right side of the heart pumps blood without oxygen to the lungs only so that they can recieve oxygen.
What is blood?
Blood is a red liquid that flows through our body.
What does blood do?
Blood carries food and oxygen to all parts of our body.It also picks up waste products ,such as carbon dioxide ,and carries it to the organs that can get rid of them.
What is carbon dioxide and what are the other organs that discard waste products?
Carbon Dioxide is a waste gas that the body must get rid of and kidneys and lungs are organs that also help discard waste products.
Where does blood move through?
Blood moves through blood vessels
What are the 3 kinds of blood vessels?
The 3 kinds of blood vessels are veins, arteries and capillaries .
Fill in the blank
Each blood vessel has a different _________ and __________in the body. Blood vessels run from the _________ to the _______ , around the body and back to the _______. Blood always moves along the same pathway in the ___________.
Structure and function. Heart to the lungs around the body and back to the heart. Blood vessels.
label this diagram
What does the artery do?
Carries blood containing oxygen and food away from the heart to the body.
What does the vein do?
Carries blood that doesnt contain oxygen, to the lungs
.
What does the capillaries do?
Joins arteries and veins. Very narrow with thin walls to allow substances, such as food and oxygen, to move through them.
What is a heartbeat?
A heartbeat is when your heart contracts to pump blood.
Why does the heart pump blood to the lungs before pumping blood to the body?
Because blood that doesn’t contain oxygen must be pumped to the lungs so it can get oxygen then get pumped to the body.
Why do we need 3 different blood vessels?
Because each one does a different job in our body .
How many times roughly does your heartbeat per minute?
About 90 times but when you’re grown up it beats about 70 times a minute.
Fill in the blank
When you run around, your body needs a lot more ________ and _______. The more _______ you are, the more often your _____ needs to beat to supply enough _____ _________ and _________.
Food and oxygen. Active, heart, food particles and oxygen
How can you count your heartbeats?
By feeling your pulse.
What is your pulse caused by?
By the pressure of your blood as the heart pumps it to the rest of your body.
Where are 2 good places to find your pulse?
On the side of your neck and the inside of your wrist.
What happens when you find your pulse?
You will feel a small beat under your skin.
What is a fair test?
A test that controls all but one variable when attempting to answer a question.
Why does only changing one variable make the results accurate?
This allows us to know no other variable has affected the test.
What parts does every human respiratory system contain?
2 lungs, air tubes leading from the mouth and nose to the lungs and muscle in the chest that allow air move in and out of the lungs.
Where are the lungs located and what protects them?
In the chest and the ribs or ribcage protect the lungs.
When you breathe in does your lungs get bigger or smaller? Why is this so?
Bigger because your lungs are filling up with air.
When you breathe out do your lungs get bigger or smaller? why is this so?
Smaller because our lungs are pushing out air.
What happens when we breathe in ?
Air enters the body through the nose or the mouth. Then the air moves down the windpipe into the lungs then the ribs move upwards and outwards. Then the chest gets bigger, and the lungs fill with air. Then the diaphragm muscle contracts and moves downwards.
What happens when we breathe out?
The diaphragm muscle relaxes and moves upwards. The chest gets smaller as air is pushed out of the lungs. The ribs move downwards and inwards. Air from the lungs moves up the windpipe and the air will exit through the mouth or nose.
What is an infectious disease?
An infectious disease is an illness which affects humans or animals and can be passed on.
What’s the meaning of barrier?
Barrier: something that is preventing something from getting through or past it.
What is a parasite?
Any living thing that is living on or in the body of another thing is a parasite.
What is the host?
the living thing that a parasite infects.
what organs are in the excretory system? And what do they produce
kidneys- urine
Lungs-carbon dioxide
liver-bile
Skin-sweat
Name the three types of blood vessels in order from largest to smallest?
Artery,Vein,Capillary
What muscle in our chest do we use to breath in and out?
Diaphragm
What disease is caused by bacteria?
Cholera or pneumonia
