Science-Sound Flashcards
Describe the different types of waves and their features
Longitudinal wave - the oscillation is parallel
Transverse wave - the oscillation is 90 degrees to the direction of the wave
Reflection wave - the wave bounces off a barrier
Incident wave - the wave goes into a barrier
What happens when waves superpose?
When waves superpose they either add up or cancel out
How is sound produced and how does it travel?
Sound is produced by vibrations and travels by bounces off molecules
Why is the speed of sound different in different materials
Sound is faster in different materials because their are more molecules per cm3
The speed of light vs the speed of sound
The speed of sound = 300m/s
The speed of light = 300 million m/s
