Science Review Flashcards
genetics
Where is genetic information contained?
Genetic information is contained in DNA in the nucleus of the cell
How is the human body organized genetically from large to small?
Cells, chromosomes, DNA (Large to small)
What can provide information on human genetics?
Pedigree, human DNA fingerprint, breeding of animals/plants (punnet square)
How can DNA fingerprinting be used?
ID a person (dead or alive), ID at person at a crime scene, diagnose a genetic disease
What is the 50/50 Rule?
Each parent contributes 50% or ½ of the chromosomes to the new baby. Recessive traits MUST come from BOTH parents
Know ABO and +/- blood typing
ABO blood typing is co-dominant
+/- is regular dominant/recessive
A and B are co-dominant
O is recessive
Rh+ is dominant
Rh- is recessive
Blood Type A–AA/AO
Blood Type B–BB/BO
Blood Type AB–AB
Blood Type O–OO
RH Factor + ++/+-
RH Factor - - -
Can someone be blood type O from Dad being Blood Type A and Mom being Blood Type B?
Yes–Both Mom and Dad carry recessive traits
Dad–AO
Mom–BO
Kid is OO
Can a kid be Blood Type AB+ if Mom is Blood type AB- and Dad is blood type BO-?
Mom–AB-
Dad-BO-
NO–Even though it is possible to get a kid that is AB blood type, Mom and Dad are Rh- and can not make kid AB+
Can someone be Rh- when both parents are Rh+?
YES–Both Mom and Dad carry recessive traits
Dad is +-
Mom is +-
Kid is –
are you going to get a A+
YESSS i am gong to slay the test
